To be honest, I wasn’t entirely sorry to be 200 miles away from the start of the annual dig at Whitehall Roman Villa – you can see why here on the blog.
Now that everyone else has done the hard work, I’m looking forward to joining them over the next couple of weeks and finding out what’s under the new area that the diggers have cleared. Marvellous though geophysics can be, you never really know what’s hiding down there until you get into it with a trowel.
